Hot Stones
Some Registered Massage Therapists use hot stones to help soften muscle and connective tissue to aid in its manipulation. The stones are cut and smoothed black volcanic basalt rock, which is highly porous, making them able to hold heat for longer periods of time than most normal rocks. The heat applied to the rocks is gentle, but can be adjusted to preference. Remember, if it’s too hot, I’ll burn my own hands before the rocks ever reach you — then you get no massage 🙁
If you like your muscles feeling like Jell-o, ask for hot stones at your next treatment!

Myofascial Release
The myofascia is a thin layer of stretchy connective tissue between your skin and the muscle below it (as well as connecting muscle to muscle, muscle to bone, and skin to bone.) It’s the “plastic bag” that holds us together and gives us our human shape. But when it adheres where/when it shouldn’t, it can cause pain, decreased range of motion, altered gait, headaches, and general feelings of grumpiness.
Ask about the multiple techniques of myofascial release at your next appointment!
